Introduction to strategy

Aha! Builder

Every application starts with a clear understanding of who it serves and why it matters. The Strategy section in Aha! Builder captures this foundational context — your application's vision, goals, and personas — so every decision you make while building stays grounded in purpose.

When you first create an application in Aha! Builder, Elle, the AI assistant, asks a series of questions about what you want to build and who will use it. Elle then uses your answers to generate an initial strategy and adds it to your Strategy section automatically. You can revisit and refine this information at any time as your understanding of the problem deepens.

Navigate to Plan → Strategy from your application's top navigation bar to get started.

Vision

Your vision articulates the opportunity your application addresses, its mission, and how it will succeed. Navigate to Plan → Strategy and select the Vision tab to review and refine it.

Elle generates your initial vision when you create your application. The vision includes these components:

  • Opportunity: The market or organizational need your application addresses

  • Mission: Your application's purpose and the outcomes it aims to deliver

  • Strengths: The advantages your application brings to its users

  • Challenges: The obstacles or risks that could affect your application's success

  • Messaging: How to position and describe the value of your application

Goals

Goals define what your application needs to achieve. They should be measurable, time bound, and connected to the outcomes that matter most to your users and your organization. Navigate to Plan → Strategy and select the Goals tab to view and manage your goals.

The Goals tab of the Strategy section of Aha! Builder. It is for an Application called Fredwin Marketing Asset Tracker. It lists 4 goals for the application.

Each goal includes:

  • Name: A concise label for the goal

  • Description: Detail about what the goal involves and why it matters

  • Status: The current progress of the goal (Not started, Abandoned, At risk, Some progress, On track, or Achieved). You can change a goal's status at any time.

  • Metric: The success criteria that indicate whether you have achieved the goal

To add a new goal, select Add goal at the top of the page.

Goals in Aha! Builder keep you focused on outcomes as you iterate on your application with Elle. When you decide whether to introduce a new feature or improve an existing one, refer to your goals to confirm that the change supports your strategic direction.

Personas

Personas represent the people who will use your application. Clear personas help Elle make better choices about navigation, workflows, and functionality, and help you evaluate whether your application serves its intended audience. Navigate to Plan -> Strategy and select the Personas tab to add and manage them.

Elle generates a starting set of personas when you create your application. Reference a persona by its ID when you prompt Elle, or select one when you run virtual user testing so the virtual user evaluates your application from that audience's perspective.
