Summarize unread notifications with Elle

Collaborating in Aha! software generates a steady stream of notifications — comments, @mentions, to-do assignments, status changes, and updates on the records you watch. Elle, the AI assistant, can summarize your unread notifications and suggest items you may have missed or priorities for you to tackle next.

Overview

Elle reads the notifications you have not yet read and turns them into a prioritized summary, so you can act on what matters without opening every item. You ask Elle from the AI assistant icon in the upper right, and Elle works across the workspaces and teams you have access to.

Enable Elle for your account to use notifications summaries

Elle can:

  • Read the message text of each unread notification, including any image it contains.

  • Understand each notification's details, such as who it is from and what action was taken on which record.

  • Retrieve notifications by how you participate, by workspace, or by record type — including returning comments only.

  • Group related notifications by record and link each item directly to that record.

  • Mark notifications as read.

Elle reads only your unread notifications, and it marks a notification as read only when you ask. It never changes your unread list on its own.

Manage what Elle can read

Elle can only read notifications for the record types and workspaces it has access to. Administrators control this access in your account's AI controls.

  • Navigate to User menu -> Settings -> Account -> AI controls.

  • In the Elle (AI assistant) record type access section, use the Allowed record types field to choose which record types Elle can read. Leave every box unchecked to grant access to all record types.

  • In the Elle (AI assistant) workspace access section, use the Allowed workspaces field to limit which workspaces Elle can access. When none are selected, Elle can access every workspace your permissions allow.

Elle's access is also bounded by your own permissions. Elle can never read a notification for a record you could not open yourself.

Because a notification can point to a record outside Elle's access, part of your summary may fall outside what Elle can read.

  • When some of your notifications reference a record type or workspace outside Elle's access, Elle leaves those items out of the summary. The summary can look complete when it is not.

  • When every notification in scope is outside Elle's access, Elle adds a short message explaining that your account's AI settings do not allow access to those record types, and names the blocked types.

  • When Elle can read at least one notification in scope, no message appears.

Summarize your unread notifications

To catch up on what happened while you were away, ask Elle for a summary.

  • Ask Elle a question such as "What did I miss?" or "Summarize my notifications."

  • Elle returns a prioritized summary:

    • Items that likely need action appear first: direct @mentions, to-do assignments, and review requests.

    • Informational items appear second: status changes and updates on records you watch.

  • Related notifications are grouped by record, and each item links directly to the record so you can act on it.

Find what needs a reply

When you want to know which conversations are waiting on you, ask Elle to find what needs a response.

  • Elle calls out comments that @mention you first.

  • For each one, Elle tells you whether it appears to ask a direct question, gives a short reason, and includes the related record and a direct link.

  • When nothing needs a reply, Elle says so clearly.

Focus on a specific area

You can scope a summary to a single slice of your notifications instead of reviewing everything at once. Ask for any filter that exists on your notifications page, such as:

  • "Summarize my participating notifications"

  • "What changed in the Fredwin Cycling workspace"

  • "Summarize my unread feature notifications"

  • "Show me unread comments"

Elle limits the summary to the notifications that match your request.

Mark notifications as read

After you review a summary, clear the items that no longer need you so your unread list stays meaningful.

  • Ask Elle to mark the low-signal items as read.

  • Your unread list then reflects only what still needs a response.

Elle marks notifications as read only when you ask.

Best practices

Elle works best when your request is clear about scope. Try these guidelines:

  • Start broad, then narrow. Ask "What did I miss?" first, then scope the summary to a workspace or record type.

  • Name the filter as it appears on your notifications page — such as participating, a workspace, or a record type — so Elle scopes the summary correctly.

  • Ask Elle to mark items read once you have acted on or dismissed them, to keep your unread list meaningful.

  • Review the linked records before you rely on a summary, especially when Elle notes that it could not read some of your notifications.
