Display multiple languages in your portal (Advanced plan)

Aha! Ideas

Ideas portals give your customers a voice — so it makes sense that your ideas portals should reflect the voice your customers are most comfortable with. With portal language settings, you can build your ideas portal in five languages (English, Spanish, German, French, and Dutch) to capture insights from more of your users.

Language settings overview

You can enable multiple languages for one portal and the portal will detect each user's browser language settings automatically. If the user's browser language is set to one of your Enabled languages, they will see your portal presented in that language. If not, they will see your portal in its Default language.

All standard portal text will be translated into one of your Enabled languages but you can customize important terms further in the Terminology settings. Emails from your portal will also be delivered in the user's language but you can customize email templates in your Email settings.

User-generated content on your ideas portal — like idea names, descriptions, and comments — will not be translated and will be shown in the user's words, in the language it was written.

Configure languages for an ideas portal

To enable languages in your portal, navigate to Settings ⚙️→ Account → Ideas portals or Ideas → Overview. You will need to be an administrator with customizations permissions to configure an ideas portal.

Once in your settings, navigate to Overview → General → Language.

  • Enabled languages: Choose the languages — English, Spanish, German, French, or Dutch — that you would like to support in your ideas portal. You can select multiple languages. If a user's browser language is set to one of your Enabled languages, they will see your portal translated into that language.

  • Default language: Choose your portal's default language from any of your enabled languages. If a user's browser language does not match one of your Enabled languages, they will see your portal in its Default language.

If you would like to customize your portal's terminology further, navigate to the Terminology tab.

Test your language configuration

After you have enabled multiple languages on your ideas portal, you likely want to test the new language experience for yourself. As an Aha! Ideas user, the ideas portal will defer to your language selection in Aha! Ideas Settings ⚙️→ Personal → Locale. So in order to see your portal in another language, you will need to set this to Use browser setting. Then adjust your browser's language settings to the language you would like to view.

For example, in Chrome, navigate to Chrome → Preferences → Advanced → Languages. Expand Languages on the right, select the language you would like to see and move it to the top.
