Run a successful Aha! Builder trial

Aha! Builder

Welcome to Aha! Builder — the AI app builder to create trusted software. Describe what you want to build, and Elle (the AI assistant in Aha! software) generates the designs, code, and database for a working application in a secure, enterprise-grade environment. Create robust prototypes, validate proofs of concept, and build business applications — no technical skills needed. The person closest to the problem can now be the one who builds the solution.

Before you get started

The best trials start with a real problem. Get clear on what you want to build, who needs it, and what success looks like before you generate anything. Consider the following:

  • Start with one idea: Choose a single problem that matters to your team, like an intake workflow, asset tracker, or customer-facing tool. You will get a much better sense of what Aha! Builder can do by building one application all the way through than by starting several at once.

  • Know your users: Think about who will use the application and what they need to accomplish. Elle asks about goals and user roles during creation, and clear answers give it crucial context — they shape everything it builds. Your end users will not need an Aha! account to use the finished application.

  • Decide between a prototype and an application: If you want to validate a proof of concept quickly, start with a robust prototype. It is fully visual and uses mock data, so you can iterate on the what before committing to the how. If you already know what you need, build a full application backed by an actual database. You can convert a prototype into a full application later.

Use Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge for your trial. Live-preview iteration is only supported in these browsers.

Create your first application

Every application starts on the Overview page. Click Create to open the creation wizard. Elle asks a short series of questions about what you want to build, who it is for, and how it should look. You do not need a detailed specification to start, and clear, concise answers work better than long pasted requirements.

Once you finalize the direction, Elle generates a complete application — front end, back end, and a PostgreSQL database — in about 10 minutes. Follow a guided walkthrough as you build your first robust prototype or business application.

Make the most of your AI credits

Every Elle interaction uses AI credits. Your trial starts with 50 credits, plus 10 more for each teammate you invite (up to 100 credits total with five additional users). Simple requests use about one credit, while generating a complete application can use 30 or more. That is plenty to build something real, especially if you spend them deliberately:

  • Be specific about scope: The more focused your prompt, the more surgical the result. Lead with the exact change you want and note what should stay the same. For example, "Add a status field to the existing tasks list."

  • Get a plan before you build: Ask Elle to describe its approach before writing any code (e.g., "What would need to change to implement this? Do not write any code yet."). This gives you a lightweight plan and lets you redirect early, before any credits go toward the wrong direction.

Click Plan mode from the Elle chat modal, and Elle will create a plan before implementing any work.

  • Start a new chat for each new item: When you move to a new piece of work, start a fresh chat so context from the previous conversation does not distract Elle.

  • Point at what you mean: Use the Select elements button in the preview to click the exact element you want to change. Elle uses it as context for your next prompt, so you avoid unintended changes elsewhere.

  • Roll back instead of reprompting: If you decide against something Elle just built, navigate to Implement -> Code -> History to roll back to a previous version rather than prompting your way back.

  • Ask questions freely: Read-only prompts (e.g., "Walk me through how the login flow works") are a great way to get oriented without triggering changes.

Build with your team

Aha! Builder is more fun with company, and each teammate you invite adds 10 AI credits to your trial. Navigate to the User menu -> Settings -> Account -> Users to add teammates, then set their access for each application. If two or more of you want to work on the same application, set each on different tasks:User management page showing application access

  • Plan and build: One person defines the work — feature definitions, strategic vision, authentication settings, feedback widgets — while the other implements it with Elle. This mirrors how many product and engineering teams already work, and it guarantees the two of you never conflict.

  • Multiple builders: Several people can iterate on the same application with Elle at the same time. Use plan mode in the chat to have Elle formulate a plan first (you can even ask Elle to suggest how to segment the work), then take on large bodies of work individually, ideally in separate areas of the application. Just like standard development work, two people editing the exact same area at the same time can lead to issues.

Explore Aha! Builder

Your application is real software — with authentication, a database, and enterprise-grade hosting built in.

Try this

Refine the design

From a chat with Elle, upload a screenshot that matches your brand and ask Elle to use it as the basis for future design decisions.

If you want more granular controls, navigate to Design to adjust typography, colors, and theme.

Plan and build new features

Navigate to the Features page to manage work on the board or user story map, then click Build feature to have Elle implement it.

Control who can sign in

Navigate to Configuration -> Authentication to enable identity providers — including SAML single sign-on, included in your Scale-level trial.

Gather feedback from users

Install a feedback widget in your application, then promote the best feedback to features on your board.

Connect other tools

Navigate to Operate -> Configuration -> Integrations to connect tools like Salesforce, Slack, Zendesk, and HubSpot to your Aha! account.

Run security and privacy reviews

Navigate to Operate -> Documents -> Security to generate reports you can share with your IT team.

Document your application

Ask Elle to generate a user guide based on your application.

Inspect the code

Navigate to Implement -> Code to browse the full TypeScript codebase. You own all the code and can export it at any time.

If you use Aha! Roadmaps, you can also connect the two products. Start an application from an Aha! Roadmaps feature or send a prototype to Aha! Builder to make it fully interactive.

Deploy your application

When your application is ready for users, deploy it to Production with a single click. Aha! Builder provisions the infrastructure for you, so there are no servers or services to manage. Production is a separate environment with its own database, user list, and configuration.

Application showing the disabled ability to deploy to production

Deployment is not enabled by default during your trial. From the question (?) menu in the upper-right corner of your account, select Get help from an expert and request to deploy from within Aha! Builder. Our Customer Success team will review your use case and enable it. This is part of how we keep Aha! Builder a trusted platform for business applications.

Preview and Production are fully separate — data, authentication settings, and logs do not carry over between them. So keep iterating in Preview with confidence; nothing reaches your users until you deploy.
