Survey results can help you make better product decisions, but the answers are often scattered across scores, comments, and spreadsheet columns. Import the data into Aha! Discovery to bring it together with the interviews and research that explain what customers are experiencing. Elle helps you quickly spot recurring problems, compare responses across customer groups, and identify opportunities for your product.
In this article, you will import a survey file into a study, use AI to analyze the responses, and create an insights report that gives product managers clear evidence for what to investigate next.

Before you begin
First, export your survey responses as a CSV or XLSX file from HubSpot, SurveyMonkey, Typeform, Qualtrics, Google Forms, or another survey tool. Aha! Discovery displays CSV and XLSX files as tables, so you can review responses and ask Elle (the AI assistant) questions about the data without leaving the study.
To import a survey, you need workspace contributor permissions and access to the Aha! Discovery study where you want to add it. Once the file is in the study, you can analyze the responses alongside the interviews and other research files already linked to it.
Import survey responses
Start by adding the survey file to the study you want to analyze.
Open the study and select Files.
Click Add files.
Drag your CSV or XLSX survey file into the import area.
Click Import.
Select the imported file from the list.
The survey opens as a table next to the file record. Scroll horizontally to see columns that extend beyond the page.
Take a moment to scan the column headers and responses before you begin. Clear column and row labels to help Elle understand the data in the file so you can ask focused questions about scores, qualitative, and quantitative feedback.
Once you can see the survey as a table, you are ready to ask Elle about the patterns in the data.
Analyze survey responses with Elle
Use Elle to explore the survey data and pull out findings worth keeping.
Open the survey file in the study.
Open Elle at the top of the file.
-
Choose a starting point:
Select Summary for an overview of the survey data.
Select Learnings to identify patterns and insights.
Select Quotes to find useful customer comments.
Select Run all Elle actions to run all Elle actions at once.
Select Ask any question to write your own prompt. You can also click the Analyze button to the left of the survey for an example prompt.
Review Elle's response.
Save the highlights you want to keep.
If you have a specific question, ask it directly. For example:
"What problems do customers describe most often in the open-ended responses?"
"Which product areas receive the lowest satisfaction scores?"
"How do priorities differ across customer segments?"
"What requests come up most often among customers with a low likelihood-to-recommend score?"
Read the output before you save it. Elle can identify patterns quickly, but you know the survey questions, response options, and customer sample best. Use that context to decide which findings have enough evidence to inform product discovery, roadmap planning, or further research.
Create an insights report with Elle
After you save highlights from the survey, create an insights report to share what you found.
Open the file.
Click Report.
Select New report.
-
Choose a template that fits the decision you want to support:
Choose Executive summary for a concise view of the main findings.
Choose Voice of the customer to focus on customer comments and recurring themes.
Choose Problem validation to assess whether a customer problem is recurring and worth investigating.
Select Draft with Elle.
Review the pre-written prompt and update it to reflect the analysis you need.
Send the prompt to create a first draft.
A survey insights report can support more than one product decision. Use it to investigate a feature request, validate an initiative, or give leadership a shared view of the customer evidence behind a proposed investment.
Elle uses the selected template and the study's research highlights to create the draft. Review it with your audience in mind. Add or remove highlights, explain the survey sample, and revise recommendations before you share the report.
You can also add text, section headers, a banner image, or links to related roadmap records to give readers more context.
Connect findings to your roadmap
If you use Aha! Discovery Advanced with Aha! Roadmaps or Aha! Ideas, link each survey highlight to the related record in Aha! Roadmaps or Aha! Ideas. When someone opens that goal, initiative, feature, epic, or idea, they can see the customer feedback behind it. Use the linked evidence to explore a product opportunity. When you link a highlight to an idea, you can compare survey findings with the feedback already associated with that request. When you link it to roadmap work, you can show the customer evidence behind a planned initiative or feature.
Hover over a highlight, click the Aha! icon, and add a Record link to a related goal, initiative, feature, epic, or idea. Link one highlight to more than one record when the same evidence supports several areas of planned work.
Share the survey insights report
Share the report in the format that works for your audience. A secure webpage gives stakeholders a live link they can open in a browser. Exporting creates a static version for a presentation, document, or offline review.
Share as a secure webpage
Use a secure webpage when you want to give people the latest version of the insights report without adding them to your Aha! account. Updates to the report remain available at the same link.
Open the insights report and select Share.
Turn on Enable share as webpage.
Choose access settings for the webpage. You can add a password or, if you have an Aha! Roadmaps Enterprise+ account, require single sign-on or limit access to signed-in Aha! users.
Select Update security settings.
Select Copy link and share the URL with your stakeholders.
Export an insights report
Export the report when you need a fixed version to add to a presentation, share in a document, or review offline.
Open the report and click the Export icon.
Choose whether to Show participant names or Hide participant names. When you hide names, the report uses participant numbers instead.
Select PNG image or PDF file.
