Conditional choice fields link dropdown selections across up to three tiers. When you pick a value at one level, the options at the next level filter automatically so your team only sees choices that match what was already selected.
For example, a field called "Release location" could offer a primary choice of country, a secondary choice of state based on that country, and a tertiary choice of city based on that state. This keeps your data consistent and your reports accurate.

Add a conditional choice field
Like all custom fields, you can create conditional choice fields from your account settings. Once created, you can add the field to any custom record layout.
To add a conditional choice field:
Navigate to User menu → Settings → Account → Custom fields.
Select a record type, then click Add custom field.
Select Conditional choice list as the field type, then click Next.
Enter a Name for the field, as well as any of the optional choices that appear when you click Show advanced options, like an API Key, then click Create.
After you create the field, you are taken to the Manage conditional selections for [Field Name] page where you can build the choice hierarchy. You can return to this page at any time by navigating to User menu → Settings → Account → Custom fields and selecting the field.
Build the choice hierarchy
Use the Manage conditional selections page to define up to three tiers of choices: primary, secondary, and tertiary. Each tier can have its own label — for example, the primary tier might be called "Product and service" while the secondary tier is called "Type of account."
To add choices manually:
Click Add choices to add your first primary-level choices (for example, "Retail banking," "Business banking," and "Commercial banking").
Expand a primary choice and click Add choices to add secondary-level choices beneath it.
Repeat to add tertiary choices beneath any secondary choice.
To import choices by CSV:
Click Import CSV file. If you are not sure how to structure the import, click Download a sample file.
Each column in the import designates one tier of the conditional choice field. To link a secondary or tertiary choice to the level above, repeat the parent choice in its row, like this:

Click Save and update to import your choices, or the trash can icon to remove the file and select another.
To organize your choices:
Drag and drop choices to reorder them within a level. Click Show choices to see the choices dependent on each choice above it.
Click on any choice to rename it, or click the More options menu beside any choice to Delete it or Unlink it from the level above.
Use the Hide choices toggle to collapse nested levels while you configure the field.
Deleting a parent choice also removes all of its nested options. This action cannot be undone.
Use a conditional choice field on a record
Once you add a conditional choice field to a record layout, it appears as a set of progressive dropdowns, one per configured tier. Each dropdown only becomes available after you make a selection to the tier above it. If you change a value at a higher tier, all selections at lower tiers are automatically cleared.
You can leave a conditional choice field partially complete if it is not required in the custom layout — for example, selecting a primary value without choosing secondary or tertiary values. If the field is set to required, you must make a selection at the deepest configured level before a record can be saved from a create modal.
Conditional choice field values will display on a record by default. Click Hide details to collapse the display.
View conditional choice data in reports
Each tier of a conditional choice field is stored as a separate column in reports. So for a field called "Release location," for example, the columns would appear as "Release location_Level1," "Release location_Level2," and "Release location_Level3."
You can add any or all of these columns to a list report or use them as filters. Records with only a primary value selected have data in the Level1 column and blank values in the remaining columns.
