Overview

The Aha! AI assistant is a single, powerful partner available across your entire Aha! account. Most of the time, you simply type a prompt using the default agent to create content, analyze data, or prototype new functionality — no extra setup required.

There are three types of prompts to use with the AI assistant:

  • Requests tell the AI assistant what you want it to do — such as summarizing feedback, drafting a message, or generating ideas.

  • Instructions contain specific guidance on how to structure output — such as your company's style guide, team workflows, or preferences.

  • Agents are intelligent tools that understand your goals and take action without needing detailed instructions each time.

The assistant is seamlessly embedded in every Aha! product with specialized capabilities in certain areas (such as the AI idea exploration page and the whiteboard AI assistant).

For even greater flexibility, you can tailor the assistant to fit your unique workflows by adding your own custom prompts to the AI prompt library.

The AI assistant (and other related AI capabilities) runs on credits. Each Aha! account includes a number of credits based on product(s), plan type(s), and paid seats. As you use the AI, you deplete credits from your account. Administrators can monitor usage in their account settings to see how the team is adopting AI and track broader adoption trends as AI becomes part of daily workflows. They can also set usage limits.

Best practices

Account settings

  • Enable or disable AI features in your Aha! account. AI features are enabled by default.

Think about instructions and agents that will help everyone in your account, or those that will drive consistency across your account. For example, this could be instructions to apply the company brand or style guide.

Line, Workspace, or Team settings

  • Create custom agents or custom instructions that everyone in your line, workspace, or team can use

Think about instructions and agents that will help everyone on your team or those that will drive consistency across the team.

These customizations will likely focus on workflows or tasks that are unique to your team or department.

A workspace can inherit an agent from its workspace line.

Personal settings

  • Create custom agents or custom instructions that only you can use

Think about instructions that solve use cases only you have before copying them into the broader Aha! account. This also applies to situations where you want to experiment with a custom agent or instruction.

You can open the Aha! AI assistant from any page in any Aha! product. Use it to chat with default agents designed to help you analyze data, prototype designs, create content, or answer questions. To do this:

  • Click the sparkle icon in the top navigation bar. The chat interface will open in the lower-right corner.

  • If you have a general question, start typing. If you have a specific task in mind:

    • Select the Agent you need from the dropdown.

    • Click the + button in the prompt window to select or create Custom instructions for a custom agent to use, or to Upload files and images that provide context for the assistant. Select Search the library to access the AI prompt library and select an existing prompt.

The AI assistant supports PDF, TXT, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, DOCX, XLSX, CSV, PNG, and JPEG file uploads.

You can upload a max of 10 images per prompt, and a max of 20 for a single chat.

  • Start typing your prompt!

You can also open the AI assistant from within a text editor to help you outline, draft, or revise content. To do this:

  • Click the sparkle icon in the text editor toolbar. The chat interface will open in a sidebar. The Writing agent will be selected by default, and your current Aha! record will be linked for context.

  • From here, you can:

    • Start typing your prompt.

    • Click the + button to select or create Custom instructions for a custom agent to use, or to Upload files and images that provide context for the assistant. Select Search the library to access the AI prompt library and select an existing prompt.

    • Click Outline, Draft, or Refine to focus on the most common text editor tasks.

From within the text editor, you can also highlight specific text that you want the AI assistant to look at. To do this:

  • Highlight text, then click the Edit with AI icon that appears.

  • The chat interface will open in a sidebar, and will include the Writing agent, your current Aha! record, and the text you highlighted for context.

There are some AI features in each Aha! product that are much more specific (in that they have entire interfaces or even full Aha! pages built around them). To access the AI assistant for these, you first need to navigate to the places where it is available. For example:

  • To open the whiteboard assistant, create a whiteboard, then click the sparkle icon from the whiteboard's toolbar.

  • To analyze an interview transcript with AI, record or upload an interview in Aha! Discovery.

  • To explore ideas with AI, navigate to Ideas -> Exploration.

  • To draft release notes with AI, ship an Aha! Roadmaps release first.

Access the AI prompt library to use custom prompts, favorite prompts, and prompts created by Aha! that are purpose-built for product development work.

Save an AI artifact

To save the AI assistant's output as an artifact, simply prompt the AI assistant to do so:

  • "Save this as an artifact."

  • "Create an artifact from this output."

  • "Save this summary as a reusable document."

The AI assistant will save the artifact and display it in a blue outlined box. Click Show to display the artifact.

Copy an AI artifact

You can copy an AI artifact and paste it into any record or note in your account:

In the AI assistant side panel, find the Analysis complete for [Record ID] box outlined in blue and click Show. From here, there are several ways to copy the artifact:

  • Click the document icon on the upper right of the artifact. Doing so will create a new document in the workspace you are in. The document icon will then change to a link icon. Clicking it will take you directly to the document.

  • Click the copy icon in the upper right. This will copy the artifact. Then, right-click or press Ctrl+V to paste it into a document or Aha! record.

  • Click the link icon to navigate to the saved artifact. From here, you can select and copy it.

Share an AI artifact

When the AI assistant saves an artifact, it gives it a unique URL that you can use to access it later. You can share this URL with anyone in your account so they can also view the artifact.

  • Click the saved artifact. It will be outlined in blue. Then, click Show.

  • Click the Share icon in the artifact's upper right. The artifact's URL will display. Click the Copy icon to copy the URL.

  • Share the URL with your colleagues.

Only users in your Aha! account who have the URL will be able to access the artifact.

Create a prototype

Use the AI assistant to turn clear requirements into interactive prototypes quickly. It generates screens and sample data from your feature details, so you can validate assumptions and refine scope early. Save the result as an artifact to gather focused feedback from the team.

  • Open a well-defined feature or product requirements document (PRD). Use a record that already has clear goals, requirements, or user stories.

  • Click the sparkle icon in the text editor to access the AI assistant.

  • Select Prototype from the Agent menu.

  • Describe what you want to prototype in the chat box, then select the arrow to submit your prompt.

  • The AI assistant will begin creating your prototype.

    • Click the full screen button at the top of the AI assistant to expand. From here, you can watch the AI assistant work.

      • Click Prototype to view the prototype. Click Source to view the generated code.

  • When the prototype is complete, save it as an artifact and share it with stakeholders for alignment.

Prompting best practices

For most prompts, you can chat with the AI assistant just like you would a human coworker, using the language that comes naturally to you. To make sure that the AI assistant returns the results you want in the fewest number of interactions, keep these guiding principles in mind:

  • Add context: The AI assistant can review records in your Aha! account — so link to them! If you have a workspace note, initiative, or even an external URL that is a great example of what you want the assistant to do, provide those in your initial prompt.

  • Segment complex tasks: It can be helpful to ask the assistant to take a sophisticated task one step at a time. First, give it context to review. Then, ask it to plan how it will complete the task. Finally, ask for it to complete each step in your task individually so you have opportunities to adjust it after every step.

  • Write specific prompts: If you give the AI assistant a vague prompt, you will get a vague response. Try to define exactly how you want the assistant to proceed and what you consider a successful output.

  • Experiment and iterate: Try different prompts, especially as you are learning how to involve the AI assistant in your Aha! account. When you find a prompt that works particularly well, ask the AI assistant to convert the prompt into custom instructions you could add to a custom agent.

If you have specific context, task steps, or prompt parameters for a task you need to do often, consider creating custom instructions. You can add all these details to custom instructions so your custom agent starts with everything it needs to be successful.
