A CNAME is a DNS record that allows users to specify that a domain name is an alias — or an alternate name — for another domain.
Through the use of a CNAME, Aha! users can change their ideas portal from the yourname.ideas.aha.io format to a custom name based upon your own company's domain presence to create a unified brand experience. This allows you to host the portal at a subdomain such as ideas.yourcompany.com.
How it works
First you must configure a CNAME record with your domain host. You will likely need to work with your internal technical support team to help you to create a custom configuration of your company domain.
Your hosting provider should provide step by step instructions for adding a CNAME record to your domain's DNS settings. These steps are unique to each provider so if you are not familiar with the process it is best to search their support documentation. You should map your CNAME to the domain portal of the Portal URL in the settings, e.g. yourname.ideas.aha.io.
Once a CNAME record has been added to your domain's DNS settings, add the custom domain to your Aha! ideas portal configuration and click save. This is located in Aha! by navigating to Settings > Account > Configure portal and then editing one of your portals; the CNAME option is under the Portal branding tab of the portal configuration page.
If you decide to use a custom domain for your idea portal you also have the ability to chose how the SSL certificate is managed. You can opt to have Aha! manage the certificate for you, or you can provide your own custom SSL certificate. This is important because while the idea data and login information is always transferred over HTTPS, the certificate is required for the portal URL to display HTTPS when using a custom domain.
Note: If no certificate is provided — or you do not let Aha! manage it — this may cause warnings to be displayed to your users who navigate to your portal URL using certain browsers and the URL bar may also show "Not Secure."
