Strategic goals are measurable results that will help you achieve your product vision. Adding goals to Aha! enables you to weave the "red thread of strategy" throughout your roadmapping process. Every release you plan will have a purpose of driving towards one or more of your goals. Features can be directly linked to the goals they impact. Linking releases and features to goals ensures that the product team is working on what matters.
Goals should be achievable within a fixed timeframe, typically 3-12 months. They should represent the critical accomplishments required to make your vision a reality. They are often stepping stones to accelerating business growth via bolder goals. You cannot improve goals if you cannot measure them, so they should be reasonably easy to track and link to higher level goals within your company.
Once you enter your goals, you can track and share them with your team and key stakeholders through Aha! Notebooks. Show your progress by setting it from the progress drop down menu next to the goal below the chart.
The success of goals are often driven by the strategic initiatives your team is undertaking. You can link your related goals and initiatives to the time frame in which they are expected to be completed within. This allows teams to do long term strategic planning and then filter based on time frame to keep the team focused on whats next.

- Increase revenue by 30%
- Grow sales in Europe by 2x in 2014
- Grow the number of customers by 10x
- Expand into 5 new countries
- Increase mobile adoption by 100%
- Reduce the number of support tickets by 15%
- Improve global first time response to less than 1 hour
To add goals, go to the Strategy -> Goals screen. If you haven't entered a goal, Aha! will prompt you. To add a new goal, simply click on +Add goal. Enter the goal name, an optional description, and the success metric. You can also connect your product and product line goals together while creating your goal.
Filter, Chart and Compare Goals
You can filter your goals to communicate which ones are completed, in progress, not yet started, or any other custom statuses that you have set up.
Then you can visualize all of your goals -- or just the filtered ones -- to help you better understand which goals to pursue. Drag your goals on the chart to compare them as they relate to one another in the context of your product or business. Click on the existing default labels and axis values on the grid to edit them, and type in the new value or metric. Customize this text to use terminology that fits how you want to map them.
Link Goals to Initiatives
While goals can be independent entities, they are often achieved through high level efforts called Initiatives. You can link the initiatives that drive you towards your goals right from the detail view.
For example, you may have a goal of being #1 in social fitness cycling software, and you will achieve that goal through key website launches. You may also have a goal at a product line level above that, to grow by 2X in 2015. Link initiatives to your goals from either the Goals or the Initiatives screens.
Link Goals to Releases and Features
Ensure that you're planning what matters by linking releases to the goals that they drive. By considering which goals (and initiatives) a release helps impact, you can identify what matters (and what doesn't). Having clearly defined goals helps keep the team on track and enables you to tell key stakeholders why your plan is the best strategy.
It can also be important to link features to goals so that you indicate strategic importance. This will especially help with prioritization of features.
Link your releases and features to any goal in your product hierarchy, to represent how they contribute towards corporate strategy.
