The Aha! mockup tool is a powerful option for not only creating design mockups -- but also for easily creating flowcharts or user flow diagrams. Flowcharts are a great way to create a clear visualization of what may have previously been a complex process or concept.
Just like mockups, flowcharts can be created throughout Aha! anywhere that you can add an attachment by clicking the Create mockup link. You will need to have Product Owner or Contributor access in your account to use this functionality.
How it works
Flowcharts are part of the mockup tool which is accessed along side the attachment option throughout Aha! Simply click the Create mockup option to launch into the mockup tool.
To create flowcharts, you should first enable Connection Arrows and Connection Points. These two options are located under the View dropdown and make the process of connecting shapes or adding shapes to a flowchart simple.
Once enabled, you can will be able to quickly build out a flowchart through a new arrow option that appears next to each shape you add. The option allows you to quickly create a copy of the current object with a connector arrow automatically drawn to it. You can also perform a Shift + Click action to only draw the connector line -- which is helpful if you wish to make a connector to a different flowchart shape.
There is an entire library of flowchart shapes available by default along the left hand navigation under the Flowchart section heading. You can also add additional UI elements from the More Shapes link towards the bottom of the page.
When interacting with shapes on the canvas, contextual editing and formatting options appear in the right side panel allowing you to quickly customize the shapes to your specifications.
- Style: Allows the manipulation of the shapes color among other visual options.
- Text: Provides text formatting functionality such as changing the font type, typographical emphasis and positioning.
- Arrange: Allows precise control over pixel size and pixel positioning as well as moving the shape forward or backwards in the mockup layers.
Changes are automatically saved 15 seconds after your last revision. When you are done working, you can close the browser tab or the File -> Exit option and return to where you were previously in Aha!
Upon returning to Aha!, the flowchart will appear as an attachment. You and your team can access and edit the flowchart by opening the attachment and clicking the blue Edit Mockup button. Other Aha! users with Product owner or Contributor access can collaborate with you on your flowchart to provide feedback or additional thoughts. However, you should ensure only one user is performing edits in the mockup tool to avoid saving over each other.
In addition to editing the mockup, users can also restore prior versions of the mockup through the attachment preview. Simply click the Version History button and select which version you wish to revert to.
Through the attachment viewer, your flowchart can be exported directly into Notebooks making it easy to quickly share designs with your various stakeholder groups.
