Introducing a new report for product value delivered

These achievements are worth celebrating. But they do not reveal the real value of what you are building. Thousands of product managers use the product value scorecard in Aha! Roadmaps to estimate the value of ideas and features and make better prioritization decisions. And you can now report on the total value of what you have delivered to customers, too.

Assess the impact of your product development efforts with the new product value report in Aha! Roadmaps.

The new report uses the product value scores you assign to ideas, features, and epics to generate a one-page summary of total value. Its top section shows how value flows across phases of your product development process. Below that, you can visualize the value of shipped features and epics grouped by their initiatives and releases. Drill into any part of the report to see details about the underlying work items.

To get started, head to the Roadmaps menu in your account and choose the new Value report. Adjust its filters to zero in on the records and time frame you want to analyze. Then, start to review results in the two sections: Value by delivery phase and Value delivered.

There is a lot to parse here, so let's dig into the report sections:

Analyze value at every stage

Start with the Value by delivery phase section to view the potential value of roadmap plans. Each included delivery phase is a sum of product value scores for records that have entered into that phase for the given time frame. Phases include:

  • Captured: Represents the total value of new ideas

  • Added to roadmap: Represents the value of features added to your roadmap

  • Work started: Represents the value of features in progress

  • Delivered: Represents the value of shipped work

It is helpful to asses how value scores change over time. For instance, the report below suggests that our Captured value is up 35% compared to last quarter. This indicates we have a lot of new and valuable ideas in our ideas portal that we can promote to our roadmap.

We can also see that the value score for features Added to roadmap is higher than the score for Work started. This could suggest that the team is working on lower-value features ahead of higher-value ones. We can drill into the details to investigate further and ensure we are prioritizing the most impactful work.

Review which records and status categories are included in each delivery phase by hovering over the question mark icons.

Reflect on value delivered

Now, let's look closer at the value we are providing to customers. Value delivered shows the value scores for shipped work grouped by their initiatives and releases. If you use Aha! Ideas Advanced, you can also view value by audience segment. And if you use Aha! Develop Advanced, you can view value by team.

In the example below, we can see that our "Premium plan updates" initiative and our "Partner portal 2.0" release delivered the most value in this time frame. Hovering over the bars will show us how value scores are divided among the completed epics and features.

Select View full reports at the bottom of each panel to dig into which epics or features are included within the chart.

Think of this new report as a discussion starter for understanding where you deliver the most value and where you might fall short.

The more you focus on value-based product development, the better you will get at prioritizing and shipping what customers want and what the business needs. We are here to help — so reach out if you need support.
